The Hidden Beach of Las Marietas

The Marieta Islands (in Spanish: Islas Marietas) are a group of small uninhabited islands, formed as a result of ancient volcanic activity, which lie few kilometers from the coast of Nayarit, Mexico.

The islands are located about an hour's sail from the shores of the North-West coast of Puerto Vallarta and are visited by hundreds of tourists every day, but no one can legally set foot on the islands. In early 900, the Mexican government led military testing on the islands because no one lived there. The explosions of the bombs that were placed in the islands, caused and created wonderful caves and rock formations. After international protests, which began in the late '60s by scientist Jacques Cousteau, the government finally decided to classify the islands as a national park, and protected against fishing, hunting or human activity

At the time the Mexican government allows only a few tour companies to get closer to the islands for guided tours, tryingto keep this environment as possible.
Within this archipelago is the famous and very special "Hidden Beach", an hidden beach where tourists have to swim through a small tunnel to reach it.

They are also famous tourist destination for snorkeling and diving. People often see sea turtles, manta rays, the Octopus, the Dolphins, Whales Humps and hundreds of species of tropical fish around the islands. The islands are also home to many birds, such as Sula, big and characteristic seabirds with short webbed feet, long and narrow pointed wings, aerodynamic body cigar-shaped, conical and strong beak and well adapted to grip slippery prey.
