'Crooked House' In Sopot, Poland Is Like A Children's Book Come To Life [Video]
We've seen furniture that plays tricks on our eyes before. But as for an entire house that looks digitally distorted? Well, there's always a first time for everything. When we came across the 'Crooked House' in Sopot, Poland, which was designed as an homage to children's book illustrator Jan Marcin Szancer's works, we did a double-take. And, no, it's not your contact lenses that make it appear blurry.
Found on the town's popular Monciak Street, the "Crooked House" attracts tourists from all over. We learned from the wacky structure's official website that architects Szotyńscy & Zaleski designed and built it in 2004. Now, the 43,000-square-foot building is home to the Rezydent shopping center, and it (proudly) joins the ranks of the world's strangest buildings.
Though our eyes start to hurt after looking at it for a while, we certainly appreciate its originality. Be sure to watch the accompanying video for more information. And if this piqued your interest in unusual architecture, you'll definitely want to check out our slideshow below.
The Strangest Building of the World
The Village of Joy portal published the list of the 50 strangest buildings of the world. The first place was awarded to our unique, unusual, full of magic Krzywy Domek in Sopot with its fabulous architecture inspired by drawings by Jan Szancer. The Krzywy Domek defeated such world-wide buildings as the Torre Galatea Figueres in Spain, the public library in Kansas City in the USA or the famous Guggenheim museum in Bilbao.
The wall of famous
The Krzywy Domek honours its guests in a special way. It is the tradition of this mysterious place that people who participate in cultural events put their signatures on the wall of the Krzywy Domek, named “The Wall of Fame”, which is the Polish version of the American Hollywood Walk of Fame. This is one of many extraordinary ideas carried out by creators of the Krzywy Domek which caused the building to be nominated in 2009 to the 7 wonders of the Tri-city (Sopot, Gdańsk, Gdynia) competition. It was liked very much by the Internet users and had crowds of fans.
On entering the Krzywy Domek we enter the world of many options and innovative solutions that support activities conducted by businessmen and all those people who desire to achieve success. The modern world cannot exist without meetings, tele-conferences, multimedia presentations, and most notably without the Internet access.
All these necessary requirements of modernity are met by the Krzywy Domek with great diligence. Thanks to one of the best prepared business offers in Poland, the Krzywy Domek is the place where the largest Polish and global companies of various industries – from finance through health to media – opened and still open their offices willingly.by Videotrip.eu videos
