    The Sapphire Symbol of Loyalty

It is said it bring Good luck and take envy away from the wearer and it is considered a symbol of fidelity in love.
For this reason, the stone is used for the engagement ring.
Since ancient times, it is considered a symbol of faith and a talisman that can repel adversity so that Charlemagne chose it for its gold pendant containing a piece of the True Cross of Christ

Sapphire is a variety of corundum, which is chemically aluminum oxide (Al2O3) strongly allocrhomatic and is the only natural substance hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale.

The word sapphire (devoid of other adjectives) identifies the blue-blue variety of corundum, but the same name is frequently used, together with an adjective, to identify any of its color other than red (ruby variety).
Once the colored corundum took the name of other stones, followed by the suffix "eastern"
Other varieties are the orange one, called padparadscha, the most valuable variety of corundum, the adamantine spar dull gray and colorless sapphire known as white sapphire.

The typical blue-blue gem is derived from inclusions of hematite and rutile. In the case in which the inclusions were directed in particular ways, we can present the phenomenon dell'asterism.

It can be found naturally in metamorphic rocks derived from remelting of a mica schist, a quartzite or limestone, in silica poor magmas and their respective alluvial deposits. These are the main deposits exploited today. It should be noted with regard to the deposits in Australia, Sri Lanka, Burma and Thailand. In Italy there are small crystals of calcite crystal in Terminillo.

The most popular way to cut this gem is faceted oval or round, but not excluding other types, such as a heart or baguette. Among the gems of exceptional size known, we should mention the "Star of India", 563 carats, preserved at the Museum of Natural History in New York.
