    The Legend of the Widow

Also known as the Black Widow, it is a mythological creature belonging to the Chilean mythology of the central and southern parts of the country.
Legend says that the widow would be a very powerful spectrum dedicated to attack the lonely people at night.
The Widow would be the soul of a woman or a witch, who was left alone and abandoned when the love of her life died; she went mad with grief and rage, and so decided to take revenge on all men. It is said that product of eternal hatred towards men, before dying, would have made a pact with the devil to continue its revenge and so had been transformed into this terrifying furoius spectrum.

Since that day the lonely riders of the rural Chilean areas always have fear to travel some lonely road in the evening, becuse they could have a fateful meeting meeting with the Widow. Therefore they are always careful to watch that on their way there is not the figure of a woman who, it is said, carries a black dress that covers her entirely and it is not possible to see the face or any part of the body until they are very close to it, and it is too late to escape.
If the rider is not able to pay attention and distracts and she was able to approach, she would use her powers to control the horse and it would refuse to increase the pace or stop. Then the horse would run a nitrite and begin to gallop wildly driven now by the magic of the Widow, now riding on his back. The horse would be led by the widow to a near ravine where horse and rider would plummet. Their dead bodies would be found the next day, at the bottom of the escarpment.

But despite his revenge, also note that from time to time, inevitably, as time passes, she always returns looking for male affection; that momentarily to calm her hatred and to approach the villages in search of some night pedestrian. On these occasions, it is said that the residents can see her from the windows but they fear to observe her horrible and ghastly pale face, with large bright and shifting eyes, and her horrible hair tied with a black veil that falls to sweep the floor beside her long dress.

It is said that she would move so fast on the ground that it would be impossible to reach her, if she does not. Solitary males, or the brave men or fools who would dare to pursue, would be attracted and then stuck outside of the villages in a place where she would have an affair with the man. The next day, it is said, the man would be stunned as if drunk, and hie face and hand scratched, and his clothes partially unbuttoned and unstitched. Still, these men are lucky to be alive unlike the unfortunate ones in the lonely roads, when she is again serving his revenge.

It is said that in recent times the Widow has also targeted cars driven by alone men and that specifically had some degree of blood alcohol.
