The Legend of the Founding of Madrid

During the Golden Age, many writers and scholars created ad hoc a classic legend that would fit to a hypothetical epic foundation of the city of Madrid, the capital of the Spanish Empire at that time, and with the same style of the legendary founding of Rome by Aeneas.
The legend appeared during the reign of Felipe III, when the city of Madrid and Valladolid vied for the right to become the seat of the capital of Spain.
The legend assumed that, among the survivors of the tragedy of Troy (among whom was Aeneas), there was also the prince Bianor. He tried to go back to Greece, but failing to find a ship to escape across the Aegean, he had to flee through the Dardanelles, and ended up settling in the current Albania, where he founded his kingdom. At Bianor death, his son Tiberius took the throne. He had two son, Tiberius and Bianor, the first legitimate and the second illegitimate. To avoid the claim to the throne of his illegitimate son, king Tiberius gave a large sum of money to the mother, the beautiful peasant Manto, nicknamed the "fatal", and to his son Bianor for leaving the kingdom. Mother and son made their way to the North, where Bianor founded the city of Mantua, in honor of his mother.

While he was king of Mantua, Bianor had a dream in which Apollo assured him luck if he would left the just created realm, and departed with his army to the land where the sun dies. After the dream, and influenced by the dream premonition, Bianor took the first name of Ocno, whose meaning is "one who sees the future through dreams", and prepared to follow the Apollo advice . According to legend, the journey lasted ten years and one night, while they were camped on a main road, the god Apollo appeared in a dream to Bianor again and told him that that was the place chosen to found a new city to which he would devote the rest of his life.
Upon awakening, Ocno found himself in a valley full of vegetation, crossed by numerous rivers and where cattle of a people called "People without a country", the Carpetanos were grazing. Carpetanos, who told Ocno they were waiting for a sign from God that allowed them to stop being nomads and settle somewhere. Once they listened to the story of the Ocno dream,Carpetanos and Ocno's army began the construction of the walls, the village and the building of the new city. The problem emerged on the divinity which consecrate the temple. So Ocno called Apollo in a dream to be able to solve the problem and in the end, Apollo gave the answer: the city was to be consecrated to the goddess Metragirta, earth goddess, daughter of Saturn, who offered her life to clear discord from Earth.

    (Metragirta)

Upon awakening, Ocno knew he had to follow the example of the goddess Metragirta. He told his subjects the decision of Apollo, and then ordered them to dig a hole, where he was locked up with a sheet. Carpetanos and soldiers sat down on the plate and start praying, and soon, in the nearby mountains a storm formed and the goddess Metragirta appeared on a chariot pulled by two lions, took Ocno out of his grave and took him away. So the city took the name of Metragirta, which became Magerit and finally in Madrid.
Among the errors that editors of this supposed legend committed, there was to establish the foundation of Madrid at an earlier date than that of Rome, when according to the classical literature, Aeneas was a companion, at Troy, of the Ocno grandfather.
